Quality Comments

Hi everyone,
This week at school we have been learning about how to write a quality comment! For some of us we are refreshing our memory on quality comments, but for the new students this year this is completely new and different to them. This is a great thing to teach and know because comments can help gleam a friendship or a conversation

There are a lot of things to consider when writing a quality comment, so I made a poster about them and how to use them to help people understand what they are.

Term 1 Library Reflection

Hi everyone,

My favourite genre ever is Family and Friendship. I also really enjoy Graphic Novels but they always end up relating to Family and Friendship. The reason why I’m so hooked up into reading Family and Friendship, is because they somehow just keep me so intrigued and entertained while I’m reading the book. When I am reading the book the words are so powerful I can see the picture in my head.

A book that I would really recommend is the current book that I am reading now, the name of the book is Blended. So for all of the year 5’s, you do know how we are reading Out of My Mind, well if you are really enjoying that class novel this book is by the same author. I am so far up to chapter 20, and can’t wait to finish it! I will give you a little sense of what the book is, by writing out the blurb:

I reach out and touch my father’s hand. I look at

my pale fingers next to his.

“Daddy?”

“What, sweetie?”

“Do you people think I’m black or

white when they see me? Am I black? Or white?

His lips turn to the slightest of smiles.

I can’t tell if this is a sad one, though. He looks at

me with his big brown – almost – black eyes,

eyes with thick lashes just like mine.

“Yes” in his reply. “Yes.”

For my book chat book I have recently just finished Crenshaw. The reason why I had chosen this book because it sounded like a pretty good story. If you have read The One And Only Ivan, it is by the same author. It was a mediocre story it was entertaining and had humour, but if I would to give a suggestion it would be it could have had a better description about some of the chapters, since one chapter you would have just started, and the next page another chapter. To get a better understanding of the book I will write the blurb:

LIFE IS TOUGH for ten – year old Jackson.

The landlord is often at the door, there’s not

much food in the fridge and he’s worried

that any day now the family will have

to move out of their home. Again.

CRENSHAW IS A CAT. He’s large, he’s outspoken and

he’s imaginary. He’s come back into Jackson’s life

to help him – but is an imaginary friend enough

to save this family from losing everything?

I really hope that you have a brief summary of what I like to read.

Also do you like the genre Family and Friendship like me?

What are Avatars: Why are they Important?

Hi everyone, today’s topic is avatars! Let’s find out the importance of avatars and why we use them.

Avatars are very important for many reasons. For one of those reasons your not allowed to put your face online. This is very important because if someone is looking at your blog and is a hacker, through your face they can track private information. You will never know what the hacker is going to use your face for. The person will track you down. And you will get in humongous trouble.

This is why avatars are useful. Avatars are an animation of your face. It’s not your real face though. It’s like a cartoon face. They are also really fun to design. You can chose and personalise it to however you like it. Avatars keep you safe from anyone who is trying to get your personal information. So they can’t track you down.

Below,  you’ll see an avatar of me! It kind of looks like me but it’s not my real face. This avatar that I made is completely safe, and no one can track me down. The avatar has some of the same features as me like same colour hair, eyes, same colour clothes, etc.

This is my avatar!

Now, you have an avatar, and if a hacker accesses your site, the hacker will never be able to track you down. The person planned to track down your face, so he or she could find out every single thing about you. Not anymore! Now they have to track down a cartoon face! Ha!

Do you have an avatar that looks like you? What are some of the other reasons not to show your face online? Why do you think we have avatars?

Book Week Voting

This term we have been shortlisting books for book week. Book Week is a very fun event. We have read exactly 6 books; we have had been judging the books out of 30. So we broke the 30 up into 3 lots of 10. One lot of 10 we scored for information, then the next lot of 10 was scored for visuals, and the last lot of 10 is the layout. The 6 books that we read was: a book called Make Believe by M.C. Escher, Waves by Donna Rawlins, Mark Jackson and Heather Potter, Sorry Day by Coral Bass and Dub Leffler, Bouncing Back: An Eastern Barred Bandicoot Story by Rohan Cleave and Coral Tulloch, The Happiness Box by Mark Greenwood and Andrew McLean; finally Our Birds: Nilimurrungu Wayin Malanynha by Siena Stubbs.

The book I voted for was Waves by Donna Rawlins, Mark Jackson and Heather Potter. I gave the visuals a 9 out of 10, I gave the layout 9 out of 10 and information a 10 out of 10! My final score was 28 out of 30. We had to fill in notes too! The notes that I wrote were: I loved the type of style of the images. The book had very clear visuals. Next I wrote: I think the layout was very cool and creative. The information was pretty detailed and the story was really cool on the end pages!

Book Week

Hello,

It’s Eva!

For this week it was book week! Today we had book day costumes. I won’t tell you who I am though! You will have to guess. So I do have one horn; I used to be a horse but a truck splashed me with glittery pink paint. I also have two ears. Can you guess who I am? Well I am Thelma The Unicorn! So now you know that I’m Thelma The Unicorn! I chose the character Thelma The Unicorn because I’ve read the book many times; last year after that book week I said “I want to dress up as Thelma The Unicorn!” So I did this year. My connection to Thelma The Unicorn is I’ve always loved unicorns and I wanted to wear something comfortable and unicorns are always comfortable! Thelma’s secret power is friendship because she is friendly to anyone no matter what. And so am I!

If you could dress up as a book character what character would you chose?Hello,

Experiment Experiences

Hello,

A couple of days ago, we did a science experiment, we got put into different groups. Our group was Emilia, Edward, Rohan and of course me. We got to do it on absorbency! The Positive Learner Attributes that my group used was probably, communication. I think we used communication, because we have to decide where to cut the materials. We also used communication when we were actually doing the experiment, because we have to work together, and communicate where we were going to put the different timings, of the materials in the video. We also used the other Positive Learner Attribute resilience. We used resilience when we had to keep waiting and waiting for the water to rise to complete the experiment, because it was almost time for us to leave. Another Positive Learner Attribute that we used was imagination, we used imagination because at the start of our experiment we had absolutely no idea what it was going to look like! It was really fun experiencing the experiment!

If you could do an experiment what would you do it on?
